Description: The Republic of Texas was in its infancy when some of the classic and historic recipes in this collection were being used by pioneer housewives in the Lone Star State.

Members of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas have collected these recipes along with household hints and home remedies handed down by their families from generation to generation. One family ancestor left behind two scrapbooks in which she pasted interesting accounts from news publications of the day. Still another left her scrapbook of recipes, household hints, and home remedies. An unusual book used as a source was a diary from the Civil War era. Some entries were handwritten recipes from the Ozona Temperance League.

DRT members are descended from soldiers and citizens of the Republic of Texas who resided in Texas prior to February 19, 1846. Many of their ancestors fought for the independence of Texas at famous battles such as the Alamo, San Jacinto, and the Siege of Bexar.

This fascinating recipe book is a must for everyone with a desire to preserve the rich heritage of the 151 years of Texas.
