Description: This cook book has been compiled in answer to the many requests for recipes used at "Yoder s Dutch Kitchen", a family type restaurant, specializing in home-cooked meals from a "Pennsylvania Dutch" background.

The restaurant is located on Highway 72 East at the edge of Abbeville, South Carolina, a small town in the Piedmont Section, or northwestern part of South Carolina, and is owned and operated by Henry and Vema Yoder who grew up with an appreciation for Dutch cooking.

The Yoders, with their family of 3 sons and 3 daughters, then in their early teens and younger, moved to Abbeville in November, 1969 from Virginia Beach, Virginia, where they lived many years.

At the time of moving it was not certain what type of business venture would be undertaken. Many promptings and encouragements, especially by the Abbeville natives of a need for a good restaurant in the area, was a great factor in the Yoder's reaching a decision to build and open "Yoder's Dutch Kitchen" a year later in December, 1970.

Pennsylvania Dutch cooking is one of the heritages of a God fearing, plain folk who live close to the soil, till their fields and with thanksgiving, garner their food from field, orchard, barnyard and garden and developed a culture all their own.
