Additional Details
Description: About one hundred years ago, many Scandinavian and particularly Swedish immigrants settled in the greater Hartford area, leaving their ancestral homes behind. One of the organizations wherein their heritage was maintained was Emanuel Lutheran Church. A strong bond of fellowship was formed, and many of the Scandinavian traditions were preserved.
In 1941 a group of women of this church (The West Hardford Ladies Aid Society) edited and published Swedish Smorgasbord and 500 Other Famous Recipes. It was and still is a very popular cookbook, in which many of the ethnic recipes are to be found. The demand to update and re-publish this cookbook has been great enough that another committee was formed to review, rewrite and publish a new book.
The committee has preserved many of the recipes from the original cookbook, which are marked with a star. Where there have been several recipes with minor variations, one main recipe is given with the variations listed. To the original recipes we have added some of the favorites of the women of today.
