Additional Details

Description: Savannah Sampler cookbook holds a collection of the best of Low Country cookery and restoration recipes, old and new, including favorites from the Savannah News-Press. The cookbook was originally conceived as a collection of the best recipes from the paper but includes contributions from acquaintances and relatives of Emma Rylander Law. Historic perspective has been provided by the inclusion of vintage recipes from fragile Southern cookbooks long out of date including two from Savannah. Private collections hereto unpublished have been generously made available such as those of Mrs. Sophie Mildrim Shonnard and the late Helen Kohoe Crolly.

Cosmopolitan present day Savannah has been represented by a variety of ethnic recipes. Restaurants such as The Pirates' House and The Pink House have shared their specialties. Some of the modern recipes for whole wheat bread and other from-scratch baking express a contemporary interest in natural foods and nutrition. The result is as varied as Savannah itself.
