Description: In the main, Nashville cookery remains true to its traditions. The baked ham which so charmed LaFayette when he had lunch at the Hermitage in 1825 still charms the discriminating diners among us. The turnip greens which became a favorite in the 1840's have lost none of their desirability in twelve decades. Corn bread had so established itself by 1880 that making it was one of the prime exhibits of the Centennial held that year. Corn bread muffins remains one of our staffs of life.
These things being true, the cookbook rightfully has become one of Nashville's leading literary specialties, the recipe a major taking-off place for conversation, and a direction for better living.
