Description: Both heritage and tradition of many backgrounds have contributed to a well-established culinary history in Louisiana. From all parts of the state...northeast, northwest, southwest, southeast, and central...comes a mixture of Cajun, French, Creole, Spanish, German, Italian and Soul, all of which can be detected in the taste and spirit of our special style. To this meld of delightful flavors, we are fortunate to be able to draw from a bounty of resources: seafood, game and waterfowl, a variety of agricultural products, and even our home gardens have contributed the spicy touches of herbs.

Members of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation have been generous in sharing their recipes, many treasured from one generation to the next. We offer them, then, to those who, we hope, will enjoy new culinary adventures through these delicious surprises, as they try our recipes one by one.

Starting with appealing appetizers, continuing through enticing entrees and ending with sweet conclusions, there are recipes to please almost every "gourmet gardener" who takes pride in creating tasty meals for her family or guests. Members of the committee preparing this book have also been generous with their time and devotion in sorting the deluge of recipes offered by garden club members throughout the state. The cookbook was published in observance of the Federation's 60th Anniversary in 1994.
