Additional Details
Description: For more than 150 years, the Sisterhood of Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim has taken the past and made it relevant to the present and future. This holds true for both our religious beliefs, and our approach to the table. Tradition is very important; great food is essential.
This year we have carefully updated our cookbook to make it more "healthy," and we have preserved some of the old ways of cooking as well. For anyone who keeps a Kosher home, substitutions can be made in most of the recipes. Each recipe has been thoroughly tested and enthusiastically approved by our team of editors, to whom we are most grateful.
However, this is by no means the official guide to preparation of Jewish cuisine; in fact, there is no such thing. While it is true there are certain foods we associate with each of our religious holidays, that type of food varies depending on regional traditions. In the United States we may eat potato latkes, but the same feast in Israel features jelly doughnuts. Regardless of region, our holiday celebrations always focus on the family gathering together for food, songs, prayers, and more food.
This book features the wealth of foods common to our region and celebrates our abundant traditions of family, faith, and great food. We sincerely appreciate the many members who so generously shared their favorite "family secrets" for this publication.
