Some of the recipes in this cookbook you may recognize as old favorites; others may be a totally new experience. The members of the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church school in Hamtramck, Michigan have compiled the recipes inside this community and church cookbook. Recipes were collected from mothers, grandmothers, and assorted relatives. In addition to traditional Ukrainian dishes, there are "Ukrainianized" versions of somewhat-less-than traditional meals that appeal to the tastes and whim of the community's children.

Along with varenyky and holubtsi, you'll find variations on ground beef patties, noodles with tomato sauces, pizzas, casseroles and quiches which through the years have become incorporated into family meals. In the pastry department, next to elegant and elaborate tortes, there are a good number of fast and easy "plyatsok" recipes that will get any young mother out of a bind when her child declares they need to bring something to the bake sale.
