Description: Phil Schwind is a natural storyteller. He is also an expert inshore fisherman. And, of course, he is a first-class cook. As a consequence, nobody down the Cape (Cod, that is) was surprised when Phil wrote this book. Besides, who could miss the sound of Phil's type-writer thumping and clunking through the night -- night after night.

Phil's book is generally about shellfish, specifically about shellfish to be found around Cape Cod and most other New England waters. But being the iconoclast he is, Phil had to throw in a little about eels, mackerel, striped bass, and other non-shellfish. But that's the beauty of his book. You never know what you will find in it.

What we know for sure to be in this book are a number of methods for gathering and cooking fish and shellfish, such as clams, quahogs, razor clams, mussels, oysters, scallops, and more. Drifting around amongst the factual material and local lore are a number of tales and anecdotes. What we don't know for sure is whether those tales and anecdotes are true or not. We're inclined to believe the story about the Pink Lady; we're not certain about the clam that sneezed.

See for yourself. See if you can stop yourself from making a steaming, aromatic, quahog pie after reading Phil's recipe. Or for that matter, see if you can keep from chuckling as you read about the sea serpent who is convinced that believing is seeing. You will be convinced, as we are, that Phil Schwind is, in fact, the fisherman's fisherman, the cook's cook, and Cape Cod's champion storyteller.
