Description: Cooking is part of Albany County's history. Before the wagons rolled westward and the railroad came, women of the Plains Indian tribes cooked here -- probably over sage-burning campfires -- for this high-country area was good hunting ground, Indian women may have discussed the best methods of preparing jerky (thin strips of meat dried in the sun) or pemmican (made from dried buffalo meat and berries), but we have no record of their culinary skills, We know only that they lived here in the not-so-distant past.
Therefore, it is only fitting that this Frontier Favorites cookbook be dedicated to Albany County's "First Ladies", those who came with the wagons and early trains to a then unsettled land, and whose treasured recipes were compiled for this Centennial Cookbook.
