About The Fishwife...

In 1985 Julio J. Ramirez and Marie Perucca-Ramirez opened The Fishwife Seafood Cafe in Seaside, California. The concept was simple: offer fresh, innovative, and healthful cuisine at reasonable prices.

Drawing on his expertise as Executive Chef, and on their exploration of traditional cuisines in Latin America and the Caribbean, Julio and Marie developed a menu combining the fresh seafood and produce available on the Monterey Peninsula with herbs, spices, and recipes from Europe and the Americas.

Soon joined in their venture by Chef Jefferson Seay, the three restaurateurs developed a large and loyal local following. In 1986, the success of the cafe led them to open a larger restaurant next to Asilomar Beach in Pacific Grove, The Fishwife at Asilomar Beach. The large and loyal local following grew, and continues to do so to this day.

The Fishwife's dedication to its original concept has resulted in consistent success, as attested to by numerous awards and recognition. Some of the many honors include First Place Award (1989) from the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce for Excellence in Small Business (Hospitality); national Third Place Award (1989) in the "Great Menu Contest" sponsored by the National Restaurant Association; and First Place Award (1990) in the Northern California Seafood Challenge competition.

The Fishwife has repeatedly been voted "Best Seafood Restaurant" in Monterey (1989, 1990, and 1991), and is named among the list of "Top Ten Restaurants" on the Monterey Peninsula.
