Treasury of Great Recipes Cookbook

"Treasury of Great Recipes" is a cookbook collector's classic and includes dishes famous eating places around the world -- mainly restaurants and hotels. This cookbook is probably one of the most beautiful in terms of the quality of the cover design and attention to detail. It also has a blend of full color photos dispersed throughout as well as illustrations. There is a great section in the back of notes pages with lines where you can store your favorite recipes, favorite wines and favorite guests.

COOKBOOK COLLECTIBILITY RATINGS RATINGS EXPLAINED

Final Collectibility Factor: 7.3

Treasury of Great Recipes Availability Rating - 8.0

These books are hard to find in used book stores since they have been out-of-print for awhile and are somewhat collectible. They are a bit easier to find online and usually several copies at a time are available on online book stores and auction sites. Be careful as some sellers bank on the idea that a customer will think this is a rare find. The book can reach up to $100 but it doesn't happen often. Another copy will always be up for grabs if you are willing to look at a few different sites.

Treasury of Great Recipes Popularity Rating - 7.0

The book is still pretty popular because of the design and the celebrity author-- 1950's horror movie actor Vincent Price. You would think this book would not be well known given the time of publishing, but it still commands attention by collectors. Most online auctions usually see around 4-5 different bidders vying for a copy of this book. Condition is important as this book has everything to do with the quality of the covers and design. Recipes come from some timeless places--Harry's Bar, Venice, Italy; Antoine's, New Orleans, LA; Grisanti's, Memphis, TN; Luchow's, New York, etc.

Treasury of Great Recipes Final Collectibility Factor Rating - 7.3

Vincent Price is still known in today's circles but his notoriety may fade over time. I believe the book is still a good investment for cookbook collectors as the design factor keeps the value higher. I have though, seen prices generally drop for this item over the past few years.

Treasury of Great Recipes Final Collectibility Factor Rating - 7.3

You will surely fall in love with this book! The overall collectibility rating is fairly high--the score is lowered in terms of buying it as an actual investment book as it will likely stay within its current range for years to come. Still, within the noted range above, it is a great buy and one you will be proud to display on your shelf. One thing I don't like about this book is that the ingredients are embedded in the recipe vs. called out at the top of the recipe. There are ingredients listed down a side bar but no measurements until you read the recipe. It makes it hard to create a quick shopping list.
